Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make an impact in a manufacturing environment? We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to support financial operations by providing cost analysis, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and operational insights. This position works closely with cross-functional teams to improve costing accuracy, enhance manufacturing performance, and support strategic business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain cost accounting processes and systems across multiple manufacturing operations.
- Develop, update, and validate standard product costs to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and collaborate with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to ensure cost accuracy.
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances while evaluating their impact on financial performance.
- Prepare manufacturing performance, productivity, and cost analysis reports for leadership.
- Monitor excess and obsolete inventory while ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
- Complete month-end close responsibilities, including journal entries and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile inventory balances and general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Coordinate physical inventory counts, investigate discrepancies, and prepare reconciliation reports.
- Generate gross margin, product profitability, and product mix analyses.
- Maintain transfer pricing documentation and assist with related financial studies.
- Produce recurring inventory, costing, and financial reports for management.
- Review operating expenses and departmental budgets to identify trends and opportunities.
- Support new product introductions, product transfers, and other manufacturing initiatives.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced accounting staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience in cost accounting or manufacturing finance.
- Experience working with ERP or computerized accounting systems.
- Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally, as needed.
