minimum qualifications

high school diploma or ged required, associate’s degree preferred; supplemented by one year of work experience in customer service, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

responsibilities

provide customer service and assistance to patrons within the library system.

Responsibilities include:

  • assisting patrons with routine service, service and electronic resources/databases, checking materials in/out, processing library card applications and book/material requests, sorting/locating materials, maintaining supplies, and assisting with collection maintenance activities.
  • providing customer service to patrons and the public. Shelve library materials, conduct routine reading of shelves, maintain shelf order, greet visitors and direct to areas of library, provide mandatory voter registration assistance and information related to library services, fees, procedures, city information/directions, or other issues.
  • assisting patrons with self‑check machines, electronic resources, databases and library services; researching book titles, availability, patron records, or related information; reserving materials; notifying patrons about overdue books, arrival of reserved books; assisting with use of copy machine and maintaining copy paper supply.
  • managing circulation desk: checking library materials in/out; assessing and clearing fines; operating the library’s automated circulation system; processing holds; retrieving books from book drop; inspecting materials for damage; withdrawing materials in need of repair; inspecting identification; routing books; sorting/arranging materials on book carts.
  • collecting and recording money for fines, fees, book sales or services; writing receipts; removing fine data from computer system; counting revenues/balances with receipts.
  • maintaining and assembling promotional materials including bookmarks, brochures, bulletins, forms, giveaways, procedural books.
  • maintaining supplies for assigned area: monitoring inventory; initiating requests.
  • repairing/mending damaged books or materials; determining best technique for repair; routing unrepairable items to discard.
