Job SummaryThe Senior Communications & Media Coordinator uses mass communication to support institutional priorities by connecting employees, students, and the broader community to the university mission. The role identifies stories about university initiatives, creates compelling print and multimedia content, and coordinates with local, regional, and national media to secure coverage. The Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for emergency communication and manages media pitches, news releases, and event coverage.
Responsibilities- Identify stories about university initiatives, accomplishments, and achievements that warrant promotion.
- Write and edit news briefs, feature articles, and profiles for digital channels and university publications.
- Work with local, regional, and national media to obtain coverage.
- Produce multimedia content including video, photo, and graphics.
- Take after‑hours calls and serve as the primary contact during emergencies.
- Represent the Division & Marketing at high‑level meetings and events.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Five years of professional communications experience, preferably in media, education, or health care.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three years of relevant experience.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Detail‑oriented work.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software/databases.
- Strong written communication with AP style knowledge.
- Meet daily deadlines.
- Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities.
- Strong project management skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Self‑starter with problem‑solving ability.
Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday (outside business hours may be required).
Pay Band: B9. Salary Range: $48,800 – $52,500 annually (commensurate with qualifications).
- Benefits may include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), paid vacation, sick leave, and thirteen paid holidays.
- Full‑time employees after six months may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.
- All selected candidates must pass a background check before starting.
- When applicable, a credit check is required for positions of trust or departmental purchase card usage.
- Motor‑vehicle reports are required for positions that require driving university vehicles.
- Faculty hires must provide proof of completed degree(s) and post‑secondary coursework transcripts; foreign‑trained candidates must provide credential evaluation.
- All employees must maintain confidentiality and adhere to cybersecurity and privacy policies.
