VDC/BIM Technician - Residential Construction

A well-established and growing residential construction company is seeking a VDC/BIM Technician to join its Technical Operations team. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and enjoys combining technology, estimating, and construction knowledge to improve accuracy and efficiency across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and maintain detailed material quantity takeoffs for residential master plans and custom options.
  • Develop and update structural framing layouts, including trusses, engineered wood products (EWP), joists, and rafters in accordance with applicable building codes.
  • Partner with field teams to verify material quantities, improve takeoff accuracy, and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to evaluate framing installations and improve estimating accuracy.
  • Support ongoing development and maintenance of internal estimating and ERP systems.
  • Assist in creating reporting tools that improve purchasing, estimating, and operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate with project managers, design professionals, and operations teams to optimize construction costs across residential and build-to-rent projects.
  • Prepare project estimates and custom option takeoffs as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and other technical projects.
Qualifications
  • Experience with residential structural framing design and material takeoffs.
  • Knowledge of trusses, engineered wood products, dimensional lumber, joist, and rafter layouts.
  • Experience preparing millwork and interior trim package takeoffs.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or BIM software such as Revit, Archicad, Chief Architect, Soft Plan, MiTek, Bluebeam, or Plan Swift.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, linked worksheets, and organized estimating workbooks.
