The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a part‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in General Dentistry. The role focuses on providing general dental patient care at an off‑site clinical facility that treats adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The position is not on a tenure track.
Abilities- Competent direct patient care, effective interprofessional collaboration, and efficient clinic management including patient record keeping in compliance with institutional and governmental policies.
- Previous teaching or mentoring experience with clinicians and clinical staff.
- Ability to recognize the need to refer patients for specialty dental treatment.
- Familiarity with digital dentistry workflows.
- Organizational and communication skills as an oral health clinician in support of interdisciplinary patient care.
Provide comprehensive general dental treatment for patients at the Mercer University School of Medicine Center for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Macon, GA as part of a memorandum of understanding between Augusta University’s Dental College of Georgia and Mercer University.
Service – 20%Participate in relevant DCG and Mercer University School of Medicine committees or councils; provide administrative oversight for patient records and complete required annual compliance training as assigned by Augusta University and Mercer School of Medicine.
Required Qualifications- Graduate of an ADA accredited dental school.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
- Proof of completed academic degree via official transcript.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary health care teams (physicians, nurses, therapists, etc.).
- General dentistry experience and at least 3 years treating special needs patients (IDD).
- For Assistant Professor: early‑career faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the position requirements.
- For Associate Professor: mid‑career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor.
- For Professor: senior‑career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor.
- Consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements.
- Evidence of ability as a teacher, scholar, and in all other duties assigned.
- Successful experience (waived if just entering the profession with all other requirements met).
- Desirable personal qualities as judged by interview and recommendations.
- Familiarity with advanced technologies and digital workflow.
- Significant clinical experience, post‑graduate training in general dentistry, or prior experience in private practice.
- Working knowledge of effective practice management strategies.
This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment is 0.75–0.99 FTE, determined role is fully benefits eligible and can select from the USG benefits package; however, only 1.0 FTE positions are considered full‑time, so this is part‑time.
Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to funding availability for each rank (Assistant, Associate, Professor).
