Job SummaryAugusta University's Dental College of Georgia seeks a Department Chair of General Dentistry. The Chair will oversee departmental teaching programs at the pre‑doctoral level, research, scholarship, intramural faculty practice, and administrative leadership for senior student comprehensive care within DCG. The Chair reports directly to the Dean, collaborates with all DCG chairs and deans, and fosters a positive, productive, and caring environment for faculty, staff, residents, students, and patients.
This is a full‑time, tenured or non‑tenure track administrative faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
- Teaching – 45%
Participate in departmental teaching responsibilities, including lectures, seminars, simulation laboratories, clinical supervision, and related activities at the pre‑doctoral level, primarily within the senior‑year comprehensive care program.
- Scholarship – 15%
Engage in research and scholarly activities to achieve demonstrable academic success such as journal publications and invited professional presentations.
- Service – 10%
Participate in Dental College of Georgia and Augusta University committee activities, and engage in professional activities that bring distinction to the incumbent and the Department of General Dentistry.
- Clinical/Patient Care – 10%
Perform patient care through the intramural practice of AU Dental Associates to maintain practice skills.
- Administration – 20%
Provide administrative leadership and guidance to the department in research, teaching, and service, including guidance on curriculum and faculty development.
- DDS/DMD degree.
- At least 5 years of dental education experience and 2 years in a relevant leadership role.
- Experience with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) processes for pre‑doctoral programs.
- Collaboration experience with senior administrative leaders in dental schools and higher education boards/councils.
- Active participation in professional organizations related to education, research, or restorative practice.
- For Associate Professor: minimum five years as an Assistant Professor.
- For Professor: minimum five years as an Associate Professor.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and other faculty duties; personal qualities evaluated by interview, biographical data, and references.
- Graduate degree in business or administration (e.g., MBA, MPA) or a certificate in business, administrative, or educational management.
- At least five years of full‑time private dental practice or equivalent experience in the U.S. armed forces providing general/restorative dental care.
- Leadership training focused on higher education.
- Full‑time (1.0 FTE); fiscal year based; year‑round work.
- Salary compatible with education, experience, and achievements; determined at hire based on internal equity and market data.
