Summary

The Department of Periodontics in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor who is an outstanding clinician and educator with an outgoing personality, strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead a nationally recognized periodontic residency program.

All aspects of periodontology.

Skills

All skills necessary to prevent, diagnose, and treat periodontitis, socket preservation, hard and soft tissue grafting; IV sedation, implant placement, treatment of peri-mucositis/implants.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching - 65% Provide high-quality instruction grounded in current clinical practice and educational best practices. Contribute to and support pre-doctoral and post-doctoral laboratory courses, including preparation, delivery, supervision, and learner evaluation. Deliver classroom instruction through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and other evidence-based methods aligned with course objectives. Support both didactic and clinical learning environments to ensure students develop foundational knowledge and applied clinical competencies.

    Develop, administer, and provide informal assessments of student performance to guide learning and support academic progression. Participate in faculty peer-review processes to promote continuous improvement in teaching quality, curriculum design, and instructional effectiveness.
  • Clinical/Patient Care - 20% Demonstrates dignity and respect for patients and families throughout planning and delivery of care; ensures timely, complete, and accurate information to support patient participation in care and decision-making.
  • Service - 5% Service on at least one intramural department committee.
  • Research/Scholarship - 10% Publication of at least one peer-reviewed paper per year (adjusted as appropriate for effort and rank).
Required Qualifications
  • DMD, DDS, BDS, or equivalent; completion of CODA-accredited periodontology residency program.
  • Teaching license or unrestricted license to practice dentistry from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
  • Teaching experience in graduate clinics and pre-doctoral clinics.
  • Rank-specific requirements:
    Assistant Professor — early career;
    Associate Professor — at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor;
    Professor — at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor.
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions: consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements; evidence of ability as a teacher; evidence of scholarly activity; successful experience (waived for some new entrants); desirable personal qualities judged in interview and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in digital dentistry and AI in periodontics and periodontal education.
  • IV sedation permit, Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
  • Minimum two years of experience in private or university-based periodontal practice, with experience in diagnosing and performing surgical and nonsurgical therapy of periodontitis, implant placement, bone grafts, sinus augmentation, gingival grafts, and laser-based therapy.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salaries are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and subject to fund availability. Faculty may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.

Rank and salary are determined at hire based on experience, education, credentials, and market data.
