Job Summary

The Department of Ophthalmology at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Applicants must be board certified/eligible and possess fellowship training in pediatric-ophthalmology. Duties will include clinical care of patients and didactic and clinical training of residents and medical students. The successful candidate would be expected to be productive in clinical care and teaching as they fulfill the academic and clinical missions of Augusta University.

There are potential opportunities in administrative and leadership positions. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities Clinical care and treatment of patients
  • Participate in the growth of the clinical and educational programs of the department.
  • Promote compliance with Wellstar MCG Health physician performance standards with respect to quality indicators, medical records completion, patient satisfaction, billing and coding documentation, prompt and accurate submission of charges for service, and proper conduct of physicians in relation to colleagues, co-workers, and patients.
  • Encourage and develop professional environments capable of fostering the highest level of medical performance throughout the region.
  • Develop collaborative relations with local community leaders.
Teaching / Instruction
  • Participate actively in the teaching activities in the Department of Ophthalmology.
Required Qualifications
  • MD, DO or equivalent;
    Board certified/eligible in ophthalmology;
    Fellowship training in pediatric-ophthalmology.
  • Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
  • Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
  • Fiscal year based and works year-round.
  • Full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
  • Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. Salary is subject to availability of funds for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.
