Job Summary

Job  (Position # ). The Medical College of Georgia, Department of Pediatrics at Augusta University seeks a pediatric cardiac intensivist faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, who will also serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. The position requires board certification in pediatric critical care and substantial experience in pediatric cardiac critical care.

The role is not on a tenure track.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Care – 87%:
    Lead the Level 1 Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia, provide round‑the‑clock care for congenital and acquired heart disease patients, and manage the full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery patients. Serve on the leadership team of the Pediatric Heart Center and Congenital Heart Program.
  • Teaching & Instruction – 13%:
    Educate fellows, residents, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. Support the existing Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program, maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above departmental mean, and attend weekly pediatric Grand Rounds and monthly faculty meetings.
Teaching/Instruction
  • Provide education and training to fellows, residents, medical students, and healthcare professionals in pediatrics, including clinical supervision, consultation, and didactics.
  • Support the existing Pediatric Critical Care fellowship program.
  • Maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the departmental mean.
  • Attend at least 50% of weekly pediatric Grand Rounds and monthly faculty meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • MD, DO, or equivalent with completion of an ACGME‑approved residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care.
  • Substantial pediatric cardiac critical care experience and board certification in pediatric critical care.
  • Eligibility for a Georgia state medical license, a federal DEA registration, and CPR certification.
  • Associate Professor:
    Minimum five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor:
    Minimum five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Academic faculty employment qualifications: SACSCOC accreditation compliance, evidence of teaching ability, evidence of scholarly activity, successful experience, and desirable personal qualities assessed in interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift, Salary, and Benefits

Full‑time (FTE 1.0), fiscal‑year based and year‑round. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and subject to availability of funds. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 13 paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, generous retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and tuition assistance after 6 months of employment. Rank and salary are determined at hiring based on experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, and market data.
