Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is actively seeking a Section Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the faculty rank of Professor to serve in a full-time position as a board‑certified Pediatric Cardiologist and Section Chief for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The position will provide clinical care for the pediatric cardiology patient population, including satellite locations, in both outpatient and inpatient clinical settings.

Clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting laboratory results, developing treatment plans, patient/family education, and maintaining accurate patient records. The Section Chief will also share weekday, weekend, and holiday emergent/after‑hours call coverage.

As Section Chief, the incumbent will be responsible for reviewing workload policy annually with the full team, analyzing specific metrics for division workload, clarifying expectations for number of clinics, weeks on service, weekend and night coverage, wRVU benchmarks based on FTE, presence expectations when not on service, leave request timing processes, and management of absences. The role does not meet tenure‑track requirements.

Responsibilities

Clinical Service – 80%
Provide clinical care for the pediatric patient population, including satellite locations, in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Duties include diagnosing and treating a wide range of disorders, performing procedures, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, and providing patient/family education. Maintain accurate patient records and share weekday, weekend, and holiday emergent/after‑hours call coverage.

Division Chief Duties
Review workload policy annually, analyze workload metrics, clarify clinic and service expectations, set wRVU benchmarks, and manage leave and absence processes.

Teaching – 15%
Provide mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to fellows, residents, medical students, and staff at AU/AUMC. Develop in‑depth educational experiences for trainees in pediatric cardiology through didactics and achieving teaching scores at or above departmental averages. Discuss teaching goals and opportunities, direct faculty to summary of teaching opportunities, and review teaching evaluations.

Research – 5%
Encourage faculty to obtain grants, promote travel grants for presentations, attend regional and national meetings, and collaborate on projects with other divisions, departments, and institutions.

Required Qualifications

MD, DO, or equivalent. Candidate must have completed an ACGME‑approved residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology, be board‑certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia, have a federal DEA registration, and be CPR certified.

Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and academic ranks:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
  • Successful experience (waived for candidates just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal‑year based and works year‑round. Full‑time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to availability of funds.
