Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking a Section Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the faculty rank of Professor to serve in a full‑time position as a board‑certified Pediatric Cardiologist and Section Chief for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The position will provide clinical care for the pediatric cardiology patient population, to include satellite locations, in both outpatient and inpatient clinical settings.

Clinical care would include but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, and patient/family education. The position will maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated, and share weekday, weekend, and holiday emergent/after‑hours call coverage. In addition, the position will serve as Section Chief which includes reviewing workload policy annually with the entire team, reviewing specific metrics for workload for division, clarifying expectations for number of clinics/weeks on service/weekends/nights, clarifying wRVU expectations/benchmark based on FTE, discussing expectations for presence when not on service and when to request leave, outlining leave request timing process and management of absences for sick leave/back‑up/make‑up, and reviewing completion of medical records policy and expectations.

This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Clinical Service – 80%

Provide clinical care for pediatric patient population, to include satellite locations, and in both outpatient and inpatient setting. Clinical care would include but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, patient/family education and various procedures. Maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated.

Share weekday and weekend emergent/after‑hours call coverage.

As Division Chief, the position will be responsible for reviewing workload policy annually with the entire team, reviewing specific metrics for workload for division, clarifying expectations for number of clinics/weeks on service/weekends/nights, clarifying wRVU expectations/benchmark based on FTE, discussing expectations for presence when not on service and when to request leave, outlining leave request timing process and management of absences for sick leave/back‑up/make‑up, and reviewing completion of medical records policy and expectations.

Teaching – 15%

Provide mentorship, clinical supervision and consultation to fellows, residents, medical students and staff at AU and develop a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in pediatric cardiology; provide training through didactics; achieve and maintain teaching scores at or above the department mean. As Division Chief, the position will discuss interest in teaching/goals/opportunities, share or direct faculty to view summary of teaching opportunities, explain need for discussion/approval from Division Chief and Chair if taking on a role that requires dedicated FTE, review teaching evaluations and opportunities for faculty development if below mean.

Research – 5%

The Division Chief is responsible for reinforcing the expectation to meet with Vice Chair for Research, encouraging faculty to obtain grants if wanting dedicated FTE, encouraging travel grants for presenting, encouraging attendance at regional/national meetings, encouraging collaborative projects with other divisions, departments and institutions.

Required Qualifications
  • MD, DO or equivalent.
  • Completed ACGME‑approved residency in pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Board‑certified in pediatrics and in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Georgia, federal DEA registration, and CPR certification.
  • Senior level career faculty member with at least five years as Associate Professor or comparable.
