The Medical College of Georgia, Department of Surgery, at Augusta University is seeking a full‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Candidates should be highly qualified transplant surgeons for kidney and liver. The division is part of an academic general surgery program which includes a general surgery residency, a clinical research program and a busy clinical practice at Wellstar at MCG Health.
The program has a growing kidney/pancreas transplant program and is in the process of starting a liver transplant program as well. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
- Provide patient care, education and research in Transplant Surgery.
- Provide clinical and call coverage as outlined by the Section Chief.
- As a Clinician‑Educator, train students and residents.
- Maintain appropriate clinical records relating to patients treated by you to the extent required by applicable state and federal laws.
- Produce the appropriate number of RVUs for your specialty and work effort.
- Participate in the educational programs of the Department, which includes teaching, service, training, preceptorship, mentoring, etc.
- Medical degree (MD, DO) or equivalent.
- Ability to acquire a Georgia Medical License and privileges at Wellstar MCG Health.
- Board‑certified in transplant surgery.
- Assistant Professor: early‑level career with appropriate postgraduate training.
- Associate Professor: mid‑level career with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training.
- Professor: senior‑level career with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training.
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation.
- Evidence of ability as a teacher.
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
- Successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
- Experience with liver transplantation.
- Fellowship training in Transplant Surgery.
- Previous teaching experience at an academic medical center.
This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full‑time.
Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor salaries and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to availability of funds.
