Job Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia seeks a full‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Applicants must be board certified/eligible and have fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology. Duties include clinical care of patients and didactic and clinical training of residents and medical students. The successful candidate will be expected to be productive in clinical care and teaching, fulfilling the academic and clinical missions of Augusta University.
This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
- Clinical care and treatment of patients
- Participate in the growth of the clinical and educational programs of the department
- Promote compliance with Wellstar MCG Health physician performance standards regarding quality indicators, medical records completion, patient satisfaction, billing and coding documentation, prompt and accurate submission of charges for service, and proper conduct of physicians in relation to colleagues, co‑workers, and patients
- Encourage and develop professional environments capable of fostering the highest level of medical performance throughout the region
- Develop collaborative relations with local community leaders
- Participate actively in the teaching activities in the Department of Ophthalmology
- MD, DO or equivalent; board certified/eligible in ophthalmology; fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology
- Assistant Professor: early‑level career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training
- Associate Professor: mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable
- Professor: senior‑level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Associate Professor or comparable
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements
- Evidence of ability as a teacher
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned
- Successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements)
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of interview, biographical data, and recommendations
This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The full‑time commitment is 1.0 FTE. Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to availability of funds for each rank.
