Job Summary
Position # . The Medical College of Georgia, Cardiothoracic Surgery Section, at Augusta University is seeking a part‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to serve as a Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgeon. Candidates with appropriate research experience and interest may receive research support. This position is not tenure track.
ResponsibilitiesProvide patient care, education, and research in pediatric cardiac surgery. Deliver clinical and call coverage as directed by the Section Chief. As a clinician‑educator, train students and residents. Maintain accurate clinical records per state and federal requirements. Produce the required number of RVUs for the specialty and workload. Participate in departmental educational programs, including teaching, service, training, preceptorship, and mentoring.
Required Qualifications- MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Board certified in Congenital Heart Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of clinical experience.
- Independent management of STAT I and II index surgical cases.
- Independent management of overall critical care patient care.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
- Innovative self‑starter with a commitment to excellence and interest in clinical outcomes research.
- Rank requirements:
- Assistant Professor – Early career with appropriate graduate training.
- Associate Professor – Mid‑career with at least five years at Assistant Professor rank or comparable background.
- Professor – Senior career with at least five years at Associate Professor rank or comparable background.
- Consistent with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) institutional accreditation.
- Evidence of teaching ability.
- Evidence of scholarship and all other assigned duties.
- Successful experience (waived for those newly entering the profession who meet all other requirements).
- Desirable personal qualities judged by interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
The position is fiscal year based, works year‑round, with a full‑time equivalent (FTE) between 0.75 and 0.99. FTE will be determined ary is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to fund availability. The role is fully benefits eligible under the University System of Georgia (USG) benefits package.
