Job Summary

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Surgery at Augusta University is seeking a full‑time faculty member in our Surgical Oncology Program in Augusta, Georgia. Candidates should be board‑certified in general surgery, with additional fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology or Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO), with an interest in pursuing a mainly Breast Surgical Oncology practice and demonstrated success in programmatic development.

Opportunities are available for research support for candidates with appropriate experience and interest. This individual will be in a non‑tenured position.

Responsibilities

Duties involve attending to patients, teaching residents and medical students, and sharing in leading the Department of Surgery. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to engage in service activities and have the opportunity to engage in clinical and basic science research if desired. Leadership roles exist within the Department of Surgery for candidates with appropriate experience and interest.

Required Qualifications
  • MD/DO degree; candidates should be Board certified in General Surgery, Board eligible/certified in CGSO (if applying after Surgical Oncology fellowship). Successful completion of a Breast Surgical Oncology or Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO) Fellowship or equivalent
  • Minimum of 0‑2 years of experience
  • Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training
  • Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for institutional accreditation
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements)
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and is considered full‑time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.
