The Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine, at the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta University) seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to support our Hospice and Palliative Medicine program. The position will work closely as part of a multidisciplinary team providing inpatient consult services at Wellstar Medical College of Georgia. It will provide consult services for Hospice and Palliative Medicine, assist with end‑of‑life discussions, arrange home/inpatient hospice, and manage symptoms for end‑of‑life patients.
The role also offers teaching opportunities and supports system‑wide advancement of the mission of Palliative Medicine. Extensive collaborative opportunities exist with multiple disciplines, providing an outstanding research environment aimed at improving patient outcomes, optimizing the efficiency of patient progression through hospitalization, implementing new systems and processes, and establishing consistent practice standards in the acute care setting. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
- Deliver effective medical care within an inpatient environment for a hospice and palliative medicine consult service.
- Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Week on/off shift schedule.
- MD, DO or equivalent.
- Georgia license or eligibility for Georgia license.
- Completed a Hospice/Palliative Medicine fellowship and board certified/eligible.
- Assistant Professor – early career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training.
- Associate Professor – mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable background and experience.
- Professor – senior‑level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements.
- Evidence of ability as a teacher.
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties.
- Successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
This position is fiscal‑year based and works year‑round.
Full‑time equivalent (FTE): 1.0.
- Assistant Professor – salary and compensation commensurate with education, experience and achievements; subject to availability of funds.
- Associate Professor – salary and compensation commensurate with education, experience and achievements; subject to availability of funds.
- Professor – salary and compensation commensurate with education, experience and achievements; subject to availability of funds.
