The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy (CBS), Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in visual system research. Ideally, the successful candidate's research program will investigate eye-related diseases that complement existing strengths in vision research within the institution. The successful candidate will become a member of the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute, consisting of basic scientists and clinicians investigating a wide range of devastating blinding disorders.

Augusta University, home to the only research-oriented, state supported medical school in Georgia, offers an outstanding interdisciplinary environment. The research infrastructure includes a NEI Center Core Grant for Vision Research (P30) plus state-of-the-art core facilities including Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Cell Imaging, Flow & Mass Cytometry, Immune Monitoring, Integrated Genomics, Small Animal Imaging, Electron Microscopy/Histology, and a biorepository. The position offers a nationally competitive start-up package.

Responsibilities

Education - 30%

Teach in the Medical College of Georgia and/or the Augusta University Graduate School and mentor graduate students.

Research - 60%

Establish vigorous independent extramurally funded research program/s to complement research strengths and goals of vision research and the University.

Service - 10%

Participate on various committees and provide public and professional service to the community and the department/college/University/USG.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in Medicine or PhD in Biological Sciences. Must demonstrate a strong potential for research including potential for obtaining extramural funding.

Assistant Professor
- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

* Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

* Evidence of ability as a teacher;

* Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

* Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

* Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Current extramural funding and demonstrated potential for its continuation.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor
- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
