Position: Open Rank- Clinical Faculty in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Job Summary

The Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is seeking a full‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to support our Hospice and Palliative Medicine program. The role involves providing inpatient consult services at Wellstar Medical College of Georgia, including end‑of‑life discussions, hospice arrangements, and symptom management, as well as teaching and advancing the mission of Palliative Medicine.

This position offers extensive collaborative opportunities across multiple disciplines, fostering research to improve patient outcomes, enhance hospitalization efficiency, implement new systems, and establish consistent acute‑care standards. The role is not tenure track.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver effective medical care within an inpatient hospice and palliative medicine consult service.
  • Maintain quality, safety, and infection‑control standards.
  • Adhere to a week on/off shift schedule.
Required Qualifications

MD, DO, or equivalent. Must hold a GA license or be eligible for one. Completed a Hospice/Palliative Medicine fellowship and be board‑certified/eligible in the specialty.

  • Assistant Professor: Early‑level career faculty with appropriate postgraduate training.
  • Associate Professor: Mid‑level faculty with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training and experience.
  • Professor: Senior‑level faculty with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training and experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications (all USG institutions and academic ranks):

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
  • Successful experience (waived for new academics meeting all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged through interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift, Salary, and Benefits

This fiscal‑year position works year round with a 1.0 FTE full‑time commitment.

Salary and compensation for each rank are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, and are subject to funding availability.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation’s largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. MCG’s educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses across Georgia and additional four‑year campuses in Athens (UGA) and Savannah (GSU). MCG and its teaching hospitals provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 ACGME‑approved programs.

Research and clinical focus areas include cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences, public and preventive health, regenerative medicine, personalized medicine, and genomics. Faculty expertise is shared with clinicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
