Job Summary

Augusta University's Department of Art and Design is seeking to fill a tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Graphic Design, anticipated to begin August 2026. The role involves teaching entry‑level and advanced courses in graphic design, including UI/UX, motion graphics, design history, typography, and design for print and publication, as well as foundation‑level 2D design as needed. This is a 2/2 teaching load with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and professional practice.

Responsibilities
  • Teach two studio courses per semester in foundation and graphic design (BFA and BA concentrations).
  • Develop and enhance departmental curricula while contributing to program growth.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students, supporting portfolio development and professional preparation.
  • Maintain an active program of creative research or scholarship with regional, national, or broader impact.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service through committees and community engagement.
Required Qualifications

MFA in Graphic Design or a closely related field, or a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline. In exceptional cases, candidates with equivalent professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments may be considered.

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements for institutional accreditation.
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned.
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of effectiveness as a teacher and potential to excel in mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly or creative activity with potential for regional, national, or broader impact.
  • A combination of industry and teaching experience is highly desirable.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year–based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in the offer letter and yearly contract. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; the salary is subject to availability of funds. Full‑time employees with more than 6 months of employment may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program. Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, and internal equity and market data.
