Job Summary

The Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI) at Augusta University invites applications for a full‑time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, dependent on qualifications. The successful candidate will conduct human subjects research and is expected to establish and develop an innovative, independent research program that attracts and maintains extramural funding from government agencies, private foundations, and industry.

The program should build upon or complement the expertise of current GPI faculty and related university initiatives in aging, immunology, nutrition, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. This position is tenure‑track.

Responsibilities
  • Establish an independent, nationally recognized research program based on impactful publications in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals
  • Pursue external funding from federal agencies, foundations, or other relevant sources to support a sustained research program
  • Provide service activities that benefit the MCG/GPI, the University, the profession, and the public at large
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biomedical related field from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated human subjects research experience
  • Evidence of strong potential to secure external funding
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Rank Definitions
  • Assistant Professor – Early‑level career faculty member with appropriate post‑graduate training.
  • Associate Professor – Mid‑level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable.
  • Professor – Senior‑level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral research or academic faculty experience
  • History of obtaining funding and current extramural funding to support research
Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal‑year based and works year‑round. The intended full‑time commitment is 1.0 FTE. Assistant, Associate, and Professor salaries are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and are subject to availability of funds. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 13 paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, generous retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options, and more. Eligible full‑time employees with more than six months of service may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire based on experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, and internal equity and market data.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation’s largest medical schools, with 304 students per class. It offers an educational experience anchored at a main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses, and two four‑year campuses in Athens and Savannah in partnership with the University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University. MCG’s expanding partnerships provide more than 350 sites for student clinical experience.

The faculty conduct research in cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neuroscience, behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative medicine, personalized medicine, and genomics.
