Position

The School of Public Health at Augusta University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in Clinical Psychology with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics in the Medical College of Georgia. This position is intended for a doctoral-level psychologist whose work addresses mental and behavioral health from a population and pediatric perspective.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a sustainable, externally funded program of research; provide clinical care within the faculty member's scope of practice; contribute to graduate and professional education; and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across public health and pediatric medicine. The role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic academic health environment committed to advancing child and family health through research, clinical care, education, and service.

Responsibilities

Research – 50%
  • Build and maintain a program of high impact research as Principal Investigator. Serve as a team scientist on other AU research (as Co‑I).
  • Solicit and obtain extramural funding to support research projects.
  • Publish regularly in high impact journals.
  • Present research at regional, national, and international scientific meetings.
  • Engage community members for research implementation and dissemination.
Clinical/Patient Care – 40%
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine social, emotional and cognitive functioning.
  • Provide therapeutic services for pediatric patients.
  • Provide consultation services to other clinicians.
Teaching – 5%
  • Co‑teach up to one course per year in SPH graduate programs.
  • Mentor SPH graduate students in your areas of expertise.
Service – 5%
  • Serve on department, school, and campus committees.
  • Serve on community, state, and national committees and support community events.
  • Conduct peer‑review for journals, funding agencies, and professional societies.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Clinical Psychology from an APA‑accredited institution or program.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a medical license in the state of Georgia. Applicants must be able to obtain hospital privileges.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity.
  • Assistant Professor – Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post‑graduate training.
  • Associate Professor – Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Professor – Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
    • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
    • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
    • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
    • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
    • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

  • Mentorship and supervision of students and trainees.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral fellowship training in pediatric psychology, public health, health services research, or a related field.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience preparing or submitting extramural grant applications. Experience with community‑engaged or translational research. Teaching experience in graduate, professional, or clinical training programs.
Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year‑round. The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full‑time.
