Job DescriptionJob Description for Literacy Support Coach. Responsible for supporting Georgia's Literacy legislation and providing services to schools to ensure a cohesive, sustained, intensive, classroom‑focused approach that is rigorous, engaging, and relevant. Georgia Literacy coaches are required to spend 70% of the school day in classrooms working directly with students and teachers. School‑Based Literacy Coaches will provide a non‑threatening, open, professional, and collaborative work relationship with principals, other academic coaches, and K‑3 teachers.
Responsibilities- Assist principals and school leadership with aligning school wide systems, processes, and resources to structured literacy as defined by HB§1193 Georgia Literacy Coach.
- Provide regular, user‑friendly data reports to districts and stakeholders.
- Assist K‑3 teachers with grade‑specific curriculum development, effective school‑wide literacy planning, and implementation monitoring.
- Collaborate with Regional Structured Literacy Support Coaches to design and conduct professional development for K‑3 teachers.
- Facilitate and lead structured coaching cycles with teachers, including goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, constructive feedback, and reflective discussions.
- Provide clear, practical, timely, and candid written and oral feedback to teachers about instruction.
- Conference with teachers needing additional support to create, implement, and monitor improvement goals and plans.
- Meet regularly with principals, school‑based coaches, and K‑3 teachers to review data and recommend instructional adjustments.
- Maintain an organized system for documenting coaching services.
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field;
Master’s degree preferred. - College‑accredited education and Georgia state teacher certification for level 4 or higher.
- Advanced preparation in reading/literacy (e.g., Reading Endorsement, Teacher Leader Endorsement, or independent training accepted by International Dyslexia Association).
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching at the elementary level, including evidence‑based word recognition and comprehension instruction.
- 3 years of instructional leadership experience preferred, including curriculum design, professional development, and implementation support at the school or district level.
- Demonstrated expertise in reading processes, systematic instruction, coaching, scientific reading research application, Georgia Standards for Excellence, Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support, and data analysis.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
