MARCH seeks part‑time instructors for Fall 2026, Spring 2027, and/or Summer 2027 semesters to teach courses in the Continuing Education in Historic Preservation Certificate Program. The specific courses are Preservation Planning and Introduction to Preservation of Historic Interiors. The program also offers elective courses on environmental preservation practice and climate change issues, as well as other topics yet to be developed.
Courses are offered as ten‑week 2‑credit or five‑week 1‑credit courses in virtual, hybrid, and in‑person models. The program also offers one‑day or weekend‑long workshops.
Applicants should have an MA in Historic Preservation, History or a related field; advanced, up‑to‑date practical and theoretical experience and knowledge of historic preservation practice and issues in the Mid‑Atlantic; and a good track record teaching historic preservation courses or workshops for diverse student populations in continuing education settings.
For returning instructors, cover letter may note that you wish to return to teach the courses you have taught in prior years.
QualificationsMinimum Education:
Master’s degree, preferably in Historic Preservation or related fields such as history, art history, or public history.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated teaching experience in historic preservation courses or workshops; expertise in current preservation issues, including climate change; ability to engage diverse student populations.
In your cover letter, specify which course(s) you believe you are qualified to develop and teach and why (Preservation Planning and Preservation of Historic Interiors). If you are interested in teaching an elective course not listed, include a brief (no more than a paragraph) course proposal that you would develop in collaboration with MARCH.
