JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, School Counseling, or a related field required.

Certification or Licensure: Meets Georgia state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.

Skills: Knowledge of School Counseling programs and related programs of studies. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of children. Ability to take notes and interpret written material. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with students, administrators, school staff, and parents. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to speak effectively to large and small groups.

Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with many different types of individuals and groups. Must conduct self in a professional manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to use computer programs and various software applications.

Work Experience: Three years of successful teaching experience is preferred.

PRIMARY DUTY

This position is responsible for providing a comprehensive school counseling program that supports students in the areas of academic achievement, career and college planning, and personal and social development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist students in the area of academic achievement, career/educational decision making, and personal and social development.

2. Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.

3. Collect and review data to develop and inform the school counseling program and evaluate the program's impact on the school's instructional goals.

4. Prepare and submit a variety of reports and data to ensure fulfillment of established program requirements.

5. Utilize proactive and responsive counseling, initiating individual and group sessions for students' academic, social, and personal concerns.

6. Consult with families, staff, and community agencies to appraise student needs and interests and to discuss appropriate recommendations for educational options.

7. Ability to collaborate with and refer to other members of the Student Services Team:
School Social Workers, School Psychologists, Mental Health Support Counselors, etc., as needed.

8. Collaborate and/or share the development and management of the comprehensive school counseling program with administrators and implement the school-based guidance and counseling plan.

9. Promote the school guidance and counseling program to students, school staff, parents, and community stakeholders.

10. Conduct individual counseling with students in areas of educational, academic, career and social/emotional needs.

11. Conduct group counseling with students in areas of educational, academic, career and social/emotional needs.

12. Coordinate with school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to student academic, career and social/emotional needs.

13. Interpret results of group and individual tests for students, staff, and parents.

14. Serve as a member of the Mental Health Team (MHT) and respond to crises as they arise.

15. Serve as a member of the Response to Intervention, Attendance Review, and Leadership Teams, as needed.

16. Ensure that students receive appropriate career development assistance.

17. Consult with school staff and parents on student problems and concerns as needed or requested.

18. Promote the utilization of community resources, services, and agencies.

19. Organize and maintain time management logs, reports, and other related documentation.
