TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work Year – 10 Months

Summary Description

Under the direction of the school principal and his/her designee, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Creates an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development, ensuring success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet all students’ needs, maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures, and monitors equipment and facilities.

Performance

  • Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of all students to ensure success for every student *
  • Reports to work on time and is prepared for all classes and duty assignments *
  • Creates a classroom environment that involves students in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
  • Provides an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including students with disabilities *
  • Prepares lesson plans and other documentation as required by the principal or his/her designee
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicates these objectives to students *
  • Establishes learning objectives consistent with an appraisal of student needs, RCSS curriculum framework requirements, and knowledge of human growth and development *
  • Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives *
  • Assesses learning and behavioral needs regularly, and provides input as needed to IEPs for students with disabilities, ensuring the implementation of modifications, including co‑teaching when required
  • Take necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities *
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, RCSS policy, and administrative regulation *
  • Assists administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct, develops reasonable classroom behavior rules, and maintains order fairly and justly
  • Remains available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional time when required or requested under reasonable terms
  • Establishes respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community
  • Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers *
  • May evaluate paraprofessional job performance with department heads or administrators
  • Maintains fair and accurate grading policies, attendance, email, and web page procedures as required through RCSS technology systems
  • Performs other duties assigned or required by the supervisor or as necessary for efficient operation of the school system *
  • Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

    Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, integration techniques, policies, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of the teaching/learning process, instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education, infusion of technology into curriculum, effective collaboration with administrators, colleagues, central office, and community, excellent oral and written communication, and strong human relations skills.

    Education, Training, and Experience

    Holder of a bachelor’s degree or higher. Must possess a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the teaching field in which employed, issued by an accredited college or university.

    Certificate and License Requirements

    Meets Georgia state certification requirements for the appropriate field of education.

    Physical Demands

    Ability to move around the classroom, stoop, bend, stand for extended periods, and move heavy objects up to 20 pounds. Crisis intervention may require participation in physical restraints.

    Special Requirements

    Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by RCBOE contract. Some work beyond the school day may be required.

    Evaluation

    Conducted annually based on the policy of the Richmond County Board of Education.
