Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, fostering an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. Supervises students, monitors outcomes, interacts with students, parents, staff, and community, and develops instructional plans to meet diverse needs.
Performance Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of each student, ensuring Success for Every Student.
- Report to work on time and be prepared for all classes and duties.
- Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and achievement of learning objectives.
- Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
- Prepare lesson plans and documentation required by the principal.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establish clear objectives, and communicate them to students.
- Assert learning objectives based on student needs, RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of development.
- Utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable achievement of learning objectives.
- Assess learning and behavioral needs regularly, provide input for IEPs for students with disabilities, and implement modifications and co‑teaching as needed.
- Take necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate and complete records per law and RCSS policy.
- Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct; develop fair classroom rules and maintain order.
- Be available to students and parents outside instructional time when reasonable.
- Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community reflecting respect for all.
- Plan and supervise assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
- Evaluate paraprofessionals' performance with administrators.
- Maintain fair grading policies, attendance records, and use RCSS technology systems.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisors or school policy.
Knowledge of RCSS curriculum and instructional techniques, integration of curriculum, RCSS policies, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of teaching/learning processes and multicultural education. Ability to integrate technology and work collaboratively with staff and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Education, Training, and ExperienceHolder of a Bachelor’s degree or higher and a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the employed field from an accredited institution.
Certificate and License RequirementsMeets Georgia state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
Physical DemandsAbility to move around the classroom, stoop, bend, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 20 pounds. Crisis intervention may involve physical restraints.
Special RequirementsRequired to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside instructional day as mandated by contract; work beyond the school day may be required.
EvaluationConducted annually in accordance with the Richmond County Board of Education policy.
