Job SummaryThe Senior Communications & Media Coordinator uses mass communication in support of institutional priorities by connecting employees, students, and the community to the university mission, vision and values. The role identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements warranting internal or external promotion, conceptualizes and produces print and multimedia content, and acts as a liaison for priority areas to communicate news to the broader community.
The position works with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage, writes and edits news briefs, feature articles and profiles for publication on digital channels or university magazines, crafts media pitches and news releases, coordinates news coverage for events, and produces multimedia content (video, photo, graphics). Takes after-hours calls and serves as primary contact in emergencies.
- Identifies stories about university initiatives, accomplishments and achievements that may warrant internal or external promotion.
- Writes and edits news briefs, feature articles and profiles for publication on digital news channels, or in university magazines.
- Works with local, regional and national media to obtain news coverage for the university.
- Produces multimedia content, including video, photo and graphics.
- Takes after-hours calls and serves as primary point of contact in the event of an emergency.
- Represents the Division & Marketing at high-level meetings and events.
- Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university with five years of professional communications experience.
- Prior experience in media, education, or health care.
- Master s degree from an accredited college or university with three years of relevant experience.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
- Strong written communication skills with knowledge of AP style
- Ability to meet daily deadlines
- Flexible and adaptable to shifting priorities and schedules

- Self-starter with ability to problem-solve
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
