Position Summary
The job of HS Child Development Specialist (190 day classified teacher) is done for the purpose/s of delivering instruction that includes all elements of standards based instruction across all developmental domains; assess student progress and adjusts instruction according to student’s needs; and provides a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment in which students are achieving.

Competencies:
Includes basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents; presenting information; and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge of stages of child development; age-appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; methods of motivating and responding to individual needs of children; and awareness of codes, regulations, and laws related to counseling students. - Ability-based

- Implements instructional programming and adapts classroom work for individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Advises parents/guardians of student progress (parent-teacher meetings, home visits) to communicate expectations and reinforce classroom goals.
- Collects and analyzes data (screening, formative and summative assessment) to adjust instructional strategies; attends meetings and professional development; communicates with parents, guardians, and district personnel.
- Develops weekly standards-based lesson plans to meet curriculum requirements and promote student learning and daily living skills.
- Implements security measures and wellness protocols (supervision, sanitizing, handwashing, safety drills, care plans) and responds to emergencies as needed.
- Maintains safe and organized learning and play spaces; ensures compliant meal service; manages projects and activities to meet timelines.
- Organizes age-appropriate indoor/outdoor activities; prepares written documents and materials for substitute teachers, parents/guardians, and data entry systems.
- Provides ongoing feedback based on formative assessment to supervisor, teacher, and parents/guardians.
- Establishes positive relationships with families; supports Parent And Child Together (PACT) activities and conferences; promotes attendance and engagement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
