High school diploma or GED equivalent - Certification/Licensing:
Paraprofessional license OR have passed the paraprofessional assessment - Maintains all licenses and certifications

- Work Experience:
At least 21 years of age (Individuals who have a minimum credit hours and hold an Associate Degree or higher teaching credential do not have to meet the minimum 21 years of age requirement)
Skills-based
Competencies:
Ability to operate standard office equipment and software, prepare and maintain accurate records, adhere to safety practices, administer first aid and/or prescribed medications, apply physical restraint practices, and promote activities and events.
Knowledge-based
Competencies:
Ability to perform basic math, read manuals, write documents, present information, and follow complex instructions. Knowledge includes grammar and punctuation, child development, learning styles, age-appropriate activities, instructional media and technology, cultural differences, health standards, codes/laws/regulations, methods of instruction, and school safety practices.
Ability-based
Competencies:
Ability to schedule activities, gather data, work with diverse individuals, manage data and equipment, maintain confidentiality, set priorities, work in teams, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate with diverse groups.
- Administers achievement and diagnostics tests as directed by the teacher for the purpose of supporting the instructional process.
- Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments and training for accomplishing daily tasks for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts and helping students reach academic goals.
- Implements independent study, enrichment work, remedial work, and daily self-care activities for the purpose of reinforcing learning concepts.
- Maintains classroom equipment, supplies, and learning aids for the purpose of ensuring availability and a safe learning environment.
- Monitors students in a variety of settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving safety concerns.
- Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting in the implementation of appropriate behavior, curriculum, and teaching methodologies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
