TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work Year – 10 Months

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the school principal and his/her designee, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. Supervises students in a variety of school‑related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students, maintains records, and follows required procedures.

PERFORMANCE

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans a program that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students to ensure Success for Every Student (*)
  • Reports to work on time and is prepared for all classes and duty assignments (*)
  • Creates a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
  • Provides an instructional program to meet the needs of all students, including students with disabilities (*)
  • Prepares lesson plans and documentation as required
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students (*)
  • Establishes learning objectives consistent with student needs, RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human development (*)
  • Uses instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives (*)
  • Assesses learning and behavioral needs regularly; provides input for IEPs of students with disabilities, including necessary modifications and co‑teaching (*)
  • Ensures safety precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities (*)
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and RCSS policy (*)
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and rules, develops classroom behavior rules, and keeps order fairly and justly
  • Provides availability to students and parents outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms
  • Establishes respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community
  • Plans and supervises assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers (*)
  • Evaluates paraprofessional job performance with department heads or administrators
  • Maintains grading policies, attendance, and technology communication as required by RCSS
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or other school personnel, law, policy, or regulation as necessary for efficient operation of the school system.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, RCSS policies, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of the teaching/learning process. Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to integrate technology into curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school staff, students, parents, and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Holder of a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Must possess a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the field of employment issued by an accredited college or university.

CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Meets Georgia state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to move around the classroom, stoop, bend, stand for extended periods, and move heavy objects up to 20 pounds. Crisis intervention may require physical restraints.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the RCBOE contract. Some work beyond the school day may be required.
