DescriptionThe teacher will plan and deliver educational instruction to diverse learners, including those with special needs, in line with state and district standards. The role requires creating a safe, engaging learning environment that promotes academic success, physical fitness, and life skills for global citizenship. The instructor will work independently with moderate supervision, applying foundational knowledge to perform the job effectively.
EssentialJob Duties
- Teach grade‑relevant, subject‑specific, and mandated curriculum.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and activities for in‑person and virtual learning, and provide written evidence of preparation.
- Communicate by phone, email, or video conferencing with district personnel, students, and parents during regular working hours.
- Create an in‑person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Use internet and web‑based technology to provide instruction and collaboration with students.
- Assess, document, and prepare reports such as achievement progress, grade and classroom performance, assessments, and attendance.
- Supervise and manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Participate in student development and achievement‑related conferences with parents, students, counselors, teachers, principals, and administrators as required.
- Perform general instruction duties such as ordering materials, attending meetings as required by the supervisor, and participating in professional learning sessions/training.
- Direct the work of the paraprofessional or instructional aide, as needed.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- For Special Education teachers: identify educational needs and provide instruction to students with varying exceptionalities; instruct students based on IEPs; serve as case manager; follow Georgia professional code of educator ethics; meet unique needs of students with severe disabilities; provide specially designed instruction; develop and implement standards‑based lessons with appropriate SDI and accommodations; differentiate instruction; develop and revise IEPs; implement IEP services;
collect and analyze student data; provide progress reports; collaborate with general education teachers; develop and implement behavior intervention plans; create a structured and supportive learning environment. - Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in the relevant educational field.
- Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved teaching certificate in the appropriate educational field.
- Special education teachers who issue grades must hold appropriate certification in service (e.g., Special Education, Adaptive Curriculum, or Special Education General Curriculum) with content certification areas aligned with Georgia requirements.
- ESOL & Gifted: valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved subject‑specific endorsements required.
- Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE): minimum education requirements based on CTAE specializations; must pass the GACE Education Ethics Assessment; minimum two (2) years of verifiable industrial work experience; industry licensure required.
