Terms of Employment: Work Year – 10 Months
Summary: Under the direction of the school principal and his/her designee, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Creates a learning environment that supports intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development and ensures success for every student. Supervises students, monitors outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and community.
Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals to ensure success for every student.
- Report to work on time and be prepared for all classes and duty assignments.
- Create a classroom environment that provides student involvement and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including students with disabilities.
- Prepare lesson plans and documentation as required by the principal or designee.
- Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communications.
- Establish learning objectives consistent with student needs and RCSS curriculum framework.
- Plan and utilize instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable students to achieve objectives.
- Assess learning and behavioral needs regularly and provide input for IEPs for students with disabilities, ensuring implementation of modifications including co‑teaching.
- Implement necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and RCSS policy.
- Assist in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop classroom behavior rules, and maintain classroom order fairly.
- Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
- Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community that reflect respect for all individuals.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
- May evaluate paraprofessional job performance with department heads and/or administrators.
- Maintain fair grading policies and procedures, including attendance, email, and web pages via RCSS technology system.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required by supervisor, school personnel, or policy.
Knowledge of RCSS curriculum, integration techniques, policies, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of the teaching/learning process and capacity to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum and work effectively with all stakeholders. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Education, Training, and ExperienceHolder of a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Must have a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the field of employment from an accredited institution.
Certificate and License RequirementsMeets Georgia state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
Physical DemandsAbility to move around the classroom, stooping, bending, standing for extended periods, and move heavy objects up to 20 pounds. Crisis intervention may require participation in physical restraints.
Special RequirementsRequired to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by RCBOE contract. Some work beyond the school day may be required.
EvaluationConducted annually based on the policy of the Richmond County Board of Education.
