Job Summary
Under the direction of the school principal and his/her designee, the teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students, creating an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. The teacher supervises students in a variety of settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and community.
Performance Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of individuals to ensure success for every student (*).
- Report to work on time and be prepared for all classes and duty assignments (*).
- Create a classroom environment that provides student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities (*).
- Prepare lesson plans and other documentation as required by the principal or his/her designee.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students (*).
- Establish learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, RCSS curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development (*).
- Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives (*).
- Assess the learning and behavioral needs of students regularly, providing input as needed to IEPs of students with disabilities to ensure the implementation of modifications including co‑teaching as needed.
- Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities (*).
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and RCSS policy (*).
- Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop classroom behavior rules and maintain order fairly and justly.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers (*).
- May evaluate paraprofessional’s job performance with department heads and/or administrators.
- Maintain fair and accurate grading policies, attendance, email and web pages through the RCSS technology system.
- Carry out such other duties as required by supervisor or relevant regulations to support efficient operation.
Knowledge of RCSS curriculum and policies, techniques for integrating curriculum, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of teaching/learning processes, multicultural education, and technology integration. Ability to work with administrators, colleagues, central office, students, parents and community. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Education, Training and ExperienceHolder of a Bachelor’s degree or higher and a valid Georgia teaching certificate in the teaching field they are employed in from an accredited college or university.
Certification and License RequirementsMeets Georgia state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
Physical DemandsAbility to move around the classroom, stoop, bend, stand for extended periods, move heavy objects up to 20 pounds, and participate in crisis intervention involving physical restraints.
Special RequirementsRequired to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by RCBOE contract; some work beyond the school day may be required.
