Job Summary

The Department of Periodontics at the Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University seeks a full‑time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The ideal candidate is an outstanding clinician and educator with strong emotional intelligence and leadership experience to oversee a nationally recognized periodontic residency program. This position is not tenure track.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching – 65%
    • Serve as an effective clinician‑educator, providing high‑quality instruction grounded in current clinical practice and educational best practices.
    • Support pre‑doctoral and post‑doctoral laboratory courses: preparation, delivery, supervision, learner evaluation.
    • Deliver classroom instruction through lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and evidence‑based teaching methods.
    • Provide informal assessments and feedback to guide student learning and academic progression.
    • Participate in faculty peer‑review processes to enhance teaching quality.
  • Clinical/Patient Care – 20%
    • Demonstrate dignity and respect for patients, honoring their knowledge, values, and cultural backgrounds throughout care planning and delivery.
    • Provide timely, complete, and accurate information to support patient participation in decision‑making.
  • Service – 5%
    • Serve on at least one internal DCG committee.
  • Research/Scholarship – 10%
    • Publish at least one peer‑reviewed paper per year (or 0.75 depending on effort and rank).
Required Qualifications
  • DMD, DDS, BDS, or equivalent. Completion of a CODA‑accredited periodontology residency program.
  • Teaching license or unrestricted license to practice dentistry from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
  • Teaching experience in graduate clinics and pre‑doctoral clinics.
  • For Assistant Professor: early‑career faculty with appropriate background, education, and training.
  • For Associate Professor: minimum five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with appropriate background, education, and training.
  • For Professor: minimum five years at the rank of Associate Professor with appropriate background, education, and training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in digital dentistry and AI in periodontics and periodontal education.
  • IV sedation permit, Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
  • Minimum two years of experience in private or university‑based periodontal practice.
  • Experience in diagnosing and treating periodontitis, surgical and nonsurgical therapy, implant placement, bone grafts, sinus augmentation, gingival grafts, laser‑based therapy.
Shift, Salary, and Benefits

Full‑time position, 1.0 FTE, fiscal year based, year‑round. Salary commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to availability of funds. Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must successfully pass a background check prior to starting. Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degrees and post‑secondary coursework, and foreign‑trained candidates must provide credential evaluation.
