JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's degree in School Counseling, Education Leadership, Workforce Development, or a closely related field required. Ed.S. or doctoral degree preferred.
Certification or Licensure: Valid Georgia Professional School Counselor certificate (T-5 or higher) or equivalent state-recognized certification in counseling or student services required. S-6 or L-6 administrative/leadership certification preferred.
Skills: Thorough knowledge of Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) college and career readiness frameworks, including the Top State for Talent Initiative, Georgia Career Information Center (GCIC), Work-Based Learning (WBL), College and Career Academy models, and postsecondary transition pathways.
Demonstrated proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tied to postsecondary readiness indicators. Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to coach and collaborate effectively with school counselors, building-level administrators, and district leadership. Familiarity with Richmond County School System policies and procedures, or ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable time.
Work Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful professional school counseling or student advisement experience required. Prior experience in a district-level, coaching, or program coordination role strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with college and career readiness programming, CTAE pathway alignment, or workforce development initiatives preferred
PRIMARY DUTY:
The Coordinator is responsible for leading the district's efforts to ensure that all students have access to a coherent, well-implemented, and equitable college and career readiness advisement system. Housed within the Office of High School Programming & Workforce Development, this position works directly with school counselors, principals, and assistant principals to ensure proper implementation, documentation, and evaluation of state and district policies governing student advisement for college and career readiness.
The Coordinator's primary focus is advancing Richmond County School System's alignment with the GADOE Top State for Talent Initiative-including postsecondary readiness metrics, industry credentialing, Work-Based Learning, dual enrollment, and career exploration programming. This role collaborates closely with the Student Services Department and serves as the central connector between counseling practice, school leadership, and district strategy for college and career readiness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
College & Career Advisement - Direct Counselor Support
- Works directly and regularly with school counselors across all high schools and middle schools to ensure consistent, high-quality implementation of college and career advisement services aligned with RCSS policies and GADOE requirements.
- Coaches and supports counselors in developing and maintaining Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAPs) and other student advisement documentation with fidelity to state and district expectations.
- Provides targeted professional learning, one-on-one coaching, and group training for counselors to strengthen advisement practices, postsecondary pathway knowledge, and data literacy.
- Assists counselors in the accurate interpretation and use of student data-including standardized assessment results, postsecondary readiness indicators, and credential attainment records-to drive individualized student advisement.
- Monitors counselor advisement practices and documentation to ensure compliance with RCSS policies, GADOE guidelines, graduation planning requirements, and postsecondary transition standards.
- Supports the development and delivery of student- and family-facing college and career readiness programming, including college access, financial aid awareness, and career exploration activities.
- Partners with principals and assistant principals to integrate college and career readiness goals into school-level planning, scheduling, data reviews, and student support structures.
- Supports building administrators with data, resources, and strategic guidance to support school-level decision-making around counseling programs and postsecondary readiness outcomes.
- Facilitates communication and alignment between school leadership teams, school counselors, and district-level departments to ensure cohesive implementation of college and career readiness initiatives.
