Job Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree required;
Educational Specialist or doctorate preferred, from an accredited college or university in educational leadership, school counseling, curriculum and instruction, or related field.

Certification or Licensure: Valid Georgia Professional certificate (T-5 or higher) or equivalent state‑recognized certification. L‑6 administrative/leadership certification preferred.

Skills: Thorough knowledge of Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) college and career readiness frameworks, including the Top State for Talent Initiative, Georgia Career Information Center (GCIC), Work‑Based Learning (WBL), College and Career Academy models, and postsecondary transition pathways. Demonstrated proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tied to postsecondary readiness indicators. Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to coach and collaborate effectively with CTAE staff, school counselors, building‑level administrators, and district leadership.

Familiarity with Richmond County School System policies and procedures, or ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable time.

Work Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience. Prior experience in a district‑level, coaching, or program coordination role strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with college and career readiness programming, CTAE pathway alignment, or workforce development initiatives preferred.

Primary Duty

The Assistant Director of High School Programming & Workforce Development assists the director with district‑wide implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of college and career advisement, CTAE programming, and postsecondary readiness initiatives across all RCSS high schools and middle schools. This position provides direct leadership to school counselors and CTAE staff, oversees graduation ceremonies and summer school operations, manages CTAE program compliance and continuous improvement, and serves as the district’s lead for GADOE Top State for Talent accountability.

The Assistant Director partners with school leadership, postsecondary institutions, and community stakeholders to ensure equitable student access to college and career pathways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • College & Career Advisement Leadership
    • Oversees the district‑wide implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of college and career advisement services across all high schools and middle schools, holding school counselors accountable to RCSS policies and GADOE requirements.
    • Conducts school‑level program reviews and walkthroughs to evaluate advisement fidelity and ensure compliance with FERPA, GADOE guidelines, and district documentation standards.
  • Student Cohort Monitoring, Graduation & Summer School
    • Oversees district‑wide cohort monitoring to track student progress toward graduation, identify at‑risk populations, and coordinate timely interventions across schools and departments.
    • Collaborates in the planning, logistics, and execution of all RCSS graduation ceremonies, including coordination with school principals, facilities, and district leadership.
    • Monitors the district’s high school summer school programming, including course offerings, enrollment, staffing support, and outcome reporting aligned with credit recovery and graduation readiness goals.
    • Partners with principals and assistant principals to integrate college and career readiness goals into school‑level planning, scheduling, and student support structures.
    • Serves as the district lead for the GADOE Top State for Talent Initiative, monitoring RCSS performance on WBL participation, credential attainment, HOPE eligibility, dual enrollment access, and SAT/ACT outcomes.
