Summary DescriptionTo serve an identified at‑risk population of students in grades 9‑12 in all areas of guidance and counseling with an emphasis on community, family, and work/career skills readiness. Provide a comprehensive developmental program of guidance and counseling to assist identified students in the areas of academic achievement, attendance, soft skills, career/educational decision making, college readiness, personal/social development, and conflict resolution. Acts as consultant to school staff, parents, and community members.
PerformanceResponsibilities
- Implements/assists in implementing the school‑based guidance plan.
- Promotes the school guidance and counseling program to students, school staff, parents, and community.
- Conducts individual counseling with students in areas of need.
- Conducts group counseling with students in areas of academic, career, and social/emotional need.
- Coordinates with school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to student academic, career, and social/emotional needs.
- Interprets results of group and individual tests for students, staff, and parents.
- Serves as a member of the Student Support Team.
- Works in collaboration with the building School Counselor, nurse, social worker, and community agencies.
- Ensures that students receive appropriate career development assistance.
- Consults with school staff and parents on student problems and concerns as needed or requested.
- Promotes utilization of community resources/services/agencies.
- Participates in professional learning activities.
- Provides weekend work, evening seminars/workshops, and flexible schedule as needed to total 40 hours a week.
- Manages a caseload of 80‑100 at‑risk students.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Thorough knowledge of RCSS policies and procedures, comprehensive guidance and counseling program, and program of studies. Knowledge of growth and development stages of children. Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of event planning, record keeping, data collection, and strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to speak persuasively and tactfully, write professionally, and create multimedia texts.
Previous high school work experience, knowledge of community resources, and self‑motivation with passion and energy to work effectively with at‑risk population.
Holder of a Master’s Degree in Education, Guidance, and Counseling. Three years of successful teaching experience preferred. Must have strong organizational skills.
Certificate and License RequirementsMeets Georgia state certification requirements for school guidance and counseling.
Physical DemandsRequires good physical and mental stamina, physical mobility, and some moving of materials and equipment for instructional use.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board policy on evaluation of personnel.
