Job Summary

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Instructor to serve as a Clinical Educator for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). The clinical educator will work at the Augusta University Center of Ultrasound Education and be a key member of the Center for Ultrasound Education leadership team.

Ultrasound is a key educational tool to aid MCG learners in the understanding of anatomy, physiology, physical diagnosis, and clinical reasoning.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Ultrasound Education and Co-Director of the Center for Ultrasound Education, the Clinical Educator for UME will be responsible for and involved in all aspects of the implementation and management of MCG’s undergraduate medical education curriculum, working with program directors and the MCG curriculum team to ensure high‑quality education through the design and execution of a holistic ultrasound curriculum.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to design, coordinate, and implement an ultrasound curriculum that meets MCG UME learner goals, objectives, and the school's competency‑based objectives.
  • Advance the MCG UME & GME mission both within a clinical department and as part of interdisciplinary educational initiatives.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Director of PCL Clinical Experience, the Assistant Dean of Ultrasound Education, and the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to design, measure and implement a UME‑focused ultrasound curriculum.
  • Independently coordinate, grade and evaluate ultrasound scanning activities for medical students, residents and fellows.
  • Independently coordinate, grade, and evaluate ultrasound activities as part of the pre‑clerkship and clerkship and Patient Centered Learning course.
  • Coordinate and collaborate all ultrasound training activities with all areas of Experiential Learning including the Clinical Skills Center, Education Simulation, and PCL Clinical Experience.
  • Participate in the organizational structure of the Center for Ultrasound Education, including development, planning, and implementation of all center related activities.
  • Manage ultrasound equipment, ultrasound simulation equipment, and ultrasound supplies as needed to fulfill the clinical and educational mission of the Center for Ultrasound Education.
  • Evaluate and revise the ultrasound modules (objectives, syllabi, student's evaluation and outcomes) for ultrasound components of the UME curriculum.
  • Support the Assistant Dean of US Education and Associate Dean for Experiential Learning in collaborating with key stakeholders, implementing data collection, and analyzing the research activities of MCG Ultrasound curriculum.
  • Work with clinical simulation faculty and staff in the development and implementation of the ultrasound components as part of simulations activities during all phases of MCG's curriculum.
  • Collect and measure UME POCUS participant data by program and report out on monthly and annual basis.
  • Collect and collate annual UME POCUS assessments.
  • Collaborate with the Director of GME Ultrasound Education and the Assistant Dean for Ultrasound Education to support remote and in‑person GME hands‑on POCUS training.
  • When required as part of school wide reviews report UME programs activities to accrediting bodies such as the LCME.
  • Participate in Center for Ultrasound Education meetings.
  • Present outcomes at local, regional, national, international conferences.
  • Support the Assistant Dean of US Education and Associate Dean for Experiential Learning in faculty development teaching activities to support MCG faculty's implementation of the UME POCUS curriculum.
  • Serve as faculty sponsor for the student‑led Ultrasound Interest Group.
  • Participate in or contribute to various MCG events in the academic calendar, and in OAA organized meetings, retreats, conferences & professional development days. As duties permit, participate in or contribute to other academic organizations' events & programs (AAMC, AAMC Groups, etc.).
