Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Literacy Specialist to support Georgia’s Literacy legislation (HB 1193) and provide services in elementary schools. The role focuses on fostering a classroom‑focused, rigorous, engaging approach to literacy instruction for students through the end of third grade.
Responsibilities- Work 70% of the school day in classrooms working directly with students and teachers.
- Assist principals and leadership in aligning school wide systems, processes, and resources to structured literacy.
- Provide regular, user‑friendly data reports to districts and stakeholders.
- Develop and support K‑3 teachers in implementing a school‑wide literacy plan, including curriculum, monitoring, and intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with Regional Structured Literacy Support Coaches to design and conduct professional development for K‑3 teachers.
- Facilitate structured coaching cycles, including goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, feedback, and reflection.
- Provide written and oral feedback to teachers, and conference with teachers requiring additional support to develop and monitor goals.
- Meet regularly with principals, school‑based coaches, and teachers to review data and recommend instructional adjustments.
- Maintain organized documentation of coaching services.
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Additional preparation in instructional coaching (Coaching Endorsement, Teacher Leader Endorsement, or independent training) or 3+ years instructional leadership experience.
- Georgia state teaching certification level 4 or higher.
- Advanced preparation in reading/literacy (Reading Endorsement, Teacher Leader Endorsement, or International Dyslexia Association program).
- Evidence of experience with reading processes, systematic instruction, coaching approaches for adult learners, scientific reading research, Georgia Standards for Excellence, MTS, data analysis.
- Minimum five years of successful elementary teaching with evidence‑based word recognition and comprehension instruction.
- Strong data analysis and application skills.
