Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Job Summary

The Department of Mathematics at Augusta University seeks an Assistant Professor to develop an Actuarial Science track in the B.S. program and an M.S. program in Biological and Computational Mathematics. The preferred area of expertise is statistics, with interest or experience in data science or actuarial science. The candidate must commit to excellence in research, teaching, and establish a research program suitable for graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include teaching introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise. Faculty is on a tenure track.

• Teaching – 50%:
  Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop new courses as needed, and contribute to graduate program development.
• Scholarship – 40%:
  Conduct mathematical research, publish, and submit grant proposals.
• Service – 10%:
  Perform service duties as assigned.

Ph.D. in data science, statistics, mathematics with an emphasis on statistics, or a closely related area.

Assistant Professor, early career faculty level.

Required faculty employment qualifications: evidence of teaching ability, scholarly activity, and desirable personal qualities judged by interview, biographical data, and recommendations. Must meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) institutional accreditation requirements.

Ph.D. with competency in data science, postdoctoral and teaching experience, and an early publication record.

Interest in data science or actuarial science within statistics.

Position is academic year based, typically August through May. Full-time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salary and compensation are commensurate with education, experience, and achievements, subject to availability of funds.
