JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum, administration, professional learning, or a related field. Masters preferred. Holder of the L-5 certificate in administration and supervision and possess or is actively pursuing the L-6 certificate in leadership.

Certification or Licensure: Possession of a valid Georgia Teaching Certificate is desirable.

Skills: Thorough knowledge of best practices based on national, state, and local standards governing educational institutions. Ability to collect, analyze, and use data to plan for improvements. Ability to support the school system’s vision and mission, promote open communication, and collaboratively solve problems based on best practices. Possess excellent verbal, written, and technology skills necessary to communicate expectations, comprehensive reports, and presentations.

Work Experience: Completion of five years of successful teaching experience; possess knowledge of up-to-date instructional methods/techniques/strategies as evidenced in past experiences and education; familiar with national, state, and local curriculum policies and curriculum options; possess leadership and collaboration skills.

PRIMARY DUTY:

This position is responsible for directing and managing the Curriculum Department to include the total instructional program for grades K-12 in the Richmond County School System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises the work and support of all curriculum coordinators in all subject areas.
  • Supervises the budgets for the Curriculum Department.
  • Coordinates activities for the continuous program of curriculum improvement in grades K-12 including providing handbooks and resource books needed by school staff and/or students and parents.
  • Assists the school’s leadership staff whenever feasible in the implementation of elementary, middle, or high school programs.
  • Encourage schools to study test data and provide assistance in the development of school improvement plans when requested by schools.
  • Promotes and coordinates research and development in curriculum organization and instructional techniques.
  • Provides leadership in the selection, procurement, and distribution of instructional materials, textbooks, and equipment related to effective instruction.
  • Communicate with professionals and the public regarding curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists school staff in the development and implementation of parental involvement programs and develops county-wide plans and evaluations.
  • Assists in the formulation of policies relating to the improvement of the curriculum and the instructional program and in the successful execution of them.
  • Assists in the development of proposals addressing instructional needs and in directing and evaluating the progress of the proposed projects and pilot programs.
  • Directs in the planning, implementation, and supervision of the K-12 curriculum.
  • Serves as ex-officio member of the Advisory Committee and member of the Professional Development Council and other county-wide committees relating to instruction.
  • Provides statistical data from Richmond County schools relative to instructional programs.
  • Cooperates in and/or initiates programs of in-service directed toward improvement of teacher competencies and instruction.
  • Works cooperatively with other system departments concerning instructional-related activities.
