Job Summary

The Advisor for Students in Transition provides specialized academic advising and support to students navigating significant academic and enrollment transitions, including transfer students, returning students, students changing majors, students on academic probation or suspension, and students redirecting from competitive or selective academic pathways. The position is responsible for delivering proactive, student-centered advising, coordinating intervention and retention efforts, developing individualized academic success plans, and connecting students to appropriate campus resources and support services.

The Advisor collaborates with campus partners to support student persistence, engagement, and degree completion while assisting with transition programming, outreach initiatives, and student success efforts aligned with Augusta University's strategic priorities related to enrollment growth, retention, belonging, and holistic student support.

Responsibilities Cross-Unit Collaboration - 15

Collaborate with academic colleges, Enrollment and Student Affairs departments, faculty, and campus support offices to coordinate student support strategies and interventions. Work closely with the Coordinator for Training and Student Transitions and other advising staff to ensure consistent communication, referral processes, and service delivery. Participate in university committees, initiatives, and meetings related to student success, retention, enrollment, and academic support. Assist with collecting and reporting student engagement, retention, and transition data to support assessment and strategic planning efforts.

Relationship

Management & Service Excellence - 10

Build positive and supportive relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive student concerns with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality. Serve as a student advocate by helping students navigate institutional systems, processes, and challenges. Represent the Academic Advisement Center at campus events, orientations, open houses, and outreach activities.

Professional Development - 5

Maintain current knowledge of advising best practices, retention strategies, student development theory, and university policies and procedures. Participate in professional development opportunities including trainings, workshops, conferences, and webinars related to advising, student success, and higher education administration. Engage in ongoing learning related to student populations in transition, academic recovery, and holistic student support. Contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and student-centered service within the Academic Advisement Center.

Student Transition Advising and Support - 40

Provide proactive, developmental academic advising and case management support to students navigating transition experiences, including dual enrolled students, transfer students, returning students, students changing majors, students on academic probation or suspension, and students redirecting from competitive or selective academic pathways. Assist students in developing individualized academic plans aligned with degree requirements, career goals, academic standing, and institutional policies. Support students in understanding university policies, procedures, academic requirements, registration processes, and available campus resources.

Conduct outreach and intervention efforts for students identified as academically at risk or experiencing barriers to persistence and progression. Assist students in developing academic recovery strategies, success plans, and realistic pathways toward degree completion. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate advising documentation within university systems such as Jag
