Mentorship and Student Engagement (MSE) was established in 2018 and aims to provide education, training, and programming to foster belonging and success in the Augusta University community. Our office collaborates with departments, colleges, and student organizations to promote our Augusta University values. We advance student success and belonging through high-impact practices, targeted student success initiatives, and co-curricular engagement opportunities to build cultural competency.

Job Summary

The Director of Mentorship and Student Engagement provides strategic leadership for programs, services, and initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, persistence, and academic success. The Director oversees a comprehensive portfolio that includes mentorship programs, leadership development, student success initiatives, and the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services Program. The position is responsible for supervising professional and student staff, managing departmental operations and resources, fostering collaborative partnerships, and utilizing data-informed practices to enhance student outcomes.

The Director also serves as a key advocate for student success by developing innovative programs, teaching leadership-focused coursework, and creating opportunities that strengthen students' sense of connection, engagement, and participation within the university community. Through strategic planning, assessment, and collaboration, the Director advances institutional priorities related to student success, engagement, and degree completion.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP, STRATEGIC PLANNING, AND DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATION: Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Office of Mentorship and Student Engagement, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, divisional goals, and student success initiatives. Develop, implement, and assess departmental goals, policies, procedures, and operational practices that enhance student engagement, retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes. Manage the Mentorship and Student Engagement Commons and recommend the development and utilization of additional campus spaces that support student connection, engagement, and success.

Lead strategic planning efforts utilizing institutional data, student feedback, and assessment results to guide decision-making and continuous improvement. Represent the office on institutional committees, task forces, and leadership groups to advance university priorities and student success initiatives.
