Job Qualifications

Education:

Educational Specialist degree, doctorate preferred, from an accredited college or university in the appropriate area.

Certification or Licensure:
Must possess or meet the qualifications for Georgia educational certification in the field of Educational Leadership or equivalent out-of-state educational leadership certification. Valid Georgia PL6 or L6 certificate or comparable out-of-state certificate.

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of administrative methods and techniques; knowledge of research and current trends in public school education; ability to direct and coordinate the activities of assigned state identified schools/programs; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to use systems thinking to establish clear goals for school/program improvement. ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and ability to develop effective working relationships with school and department staff, governmental leaders, outside advocacy groups, and community members.

Knowledge (or ability to quickly acquire) of National Standards, Georgia Standards of Excellence, Assessments, etc. Knowledge of school improvement programs and planning processes in state-identified schools. Ability to effectively supervise the implementation of curriculum and/or programs. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a complex and diverse school system, and a wide range of varied experiences across school systems and education institutes.

Ability to collect, analyze, and use data to plan for necessary reforms. Writing and technology skills are necessary for producing comprehensive reports and making presentations. Excellent interpersonal skills built on communication and collaboration.

Work Experience:

Five or more years of progressively more responsible administrative experience in elementary or secondary schools or other appropriate leadership positions, with successful teacher and school leadership experience preferred. The ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public school administration; other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Serves on the school system leadership team and Superintendent’s Cabinet.
  • Assists the principal with becoming the instructional leader and the chief academic officer at the school site.
    3. Assumes responsibility for the implementation of elementary, middle, K-8, high, and magnet schools and programs.
  • Coordinates support, and promotes the elementary, middle, K-8, high, and magnet schools and programs.
  • Supports the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Systems for administrators and teachers.
  • Conducts observations and walkthroughs to provide feedback to help strengthen the effectiveness of standards-based instruction and interventions.
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation process for principals and departmental staff members.
  • Provides the necessary administrative and supervisory functions for appropriate leadership of the department staff.
  • Develop and manage the Richmond County School System budget within assigned areas - program maintenance, development, and improvements.
  • Supports the planning, coordination, delivery, and monitoring of professional learning and school improvement to enhance student achievement in state-identified schools.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with other offices and agencies in the CSRA, Georgia Department of Education, and others that support the mission of the department.
  • Monitors implementation of the School Improvement Plan, curriculum, and instruction strategies, and maintains a focus on academic achievement and ongoing modification of the plan.
  • Collects and utilizes data to inform instructional decisions and monitors plans for academic interventions.
  • Coordinates, monitors, and supervises the implementation of proven, research-based methods and strategies for school and student improvement in state-identified schools.
