The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Augusta University seeks a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Geography. Qualifications for Geographic Information's System (GIS) instruction required. Experience in cultural research management and/or forensic archaeology is an asset. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and present a compelling research agenda, with the ability to include undergraduates in research at Augusta University.
Responsibilities- Teach 9 credit hours a semester, to include introductory classes in Geography and Anthropology, upper division classes in Anthropology, and other classes as needed.
- Hold office hours, providing timely grading and student feedback.
- Adhere to all academic policies of the University.
- Maintain a high-quality research program.
- Participate in shared governance, of department, college, and university as assigned.
Ph.D. in Anthropology and qualifications to teach undergraduate Geography with core technical skills in GIS.
Assistant Professor - Terminal degree (or nearing its completion), or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
- Experience teaching both online and in-person classes and labs
- Ability to involve undergraduates in research
- Track record of success teaching a wide variety of undergraduate students
- Graduate certificate or degree in Geography/Geospatial Sciences
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department InformationThe Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy is housed in the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The College is home to 7 departments, with more than 1,300 majors, over 200 full-time and part-time faculty, and more than 50 distinct academic programs, including Masters programs in Intelligence and Security Studies, Public Administration, and Psychology, and a PhD in National Defense.
The History, Anthropology, and Philosophy department offers undergraduates degrees in History and Anthropology, and teaches a broad range of core social science, lab science, and humanities courses.
