Lead Substation Physical Engineer

We are seeking a core team member to design high voltage utility substation projects.

• U.S. candidates located more than 50 miles from Atlanta, GA office.
• Preferred:
  Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Alabama.
• Willingness to travel 10-20% of time to customer sites and office.

• 2–3 days in office; remaining days remote.
• In-person collaboration, client meetings, networking events, training programs.
• Balance remote flexibility with in-office engagement.

• Design conceptual and detailed HV/MV substation physical/electrical projects.
• Perform advanced engineering studies and calculations.
• Conduct quality control reviews of substation design projects.
• Create and review bills of materials; develop proposals and scopes of work.
• Prepare technical presentations for team development.
• Engage with clients, including site visits, ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Lead and mentor junior engineers; supervise up to six direct reports.
• Excellent communication with internal teams and clients.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or related field with 8+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Leadership experience in substation projects.
• Ability to lead bids and proposal efforts.
• Experience performing quality control checks on substation design.
• Capability to read and design substation drawings (one-line, three-line, plan-section, foundation, grounding, protection & control).
• Experience with grounding and lightning protection studies.
• Experience with bill of materials creation and review.
• Experience with substation physical application documents.
• Ability to attend client site visits.

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
• Master’s degree.
• QA/QC experience.
• Knowledge of protection and control design.
• Experience with bus calculations.
• Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
• Experience with SDS AutoCAD Electrical software.

• Opportunities for technical and non-technical training.
• Exposure to projects at various voltage levels.
• Participation in mentorship program.
• Knowledge of electrical power calculations and NESC.
