Position: Electrical Maintenance Supervisor - Gypsum (Newington)

Electrical Maintenance Supervisor

Our Georgia‑Pacific Gypsum Plant in Newington is expanding and creating a new opportunity for an ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR. This position will provide an opportunity for an individual to utilize their leadership, project management, long‑term planning, and coordination skills, reporting to the Maintenance Manager.

What You Will Do
  • Supervise and grow the capability of the Electrician and Mechanical Technicians.
  • Electrical/Mechanical technical support.
  • Lead Electrical Safety Work Practices and operate as the Compliance System Owner.
  • Lead Electrical and Instrument team to accomplish value‑adding repairs or improvements to the plant's electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Assures maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with company and safety policies by complying with administrative and technical procedures.
  • Coordinate and oversee work execution, both in‑house and contract work.
  • Assures timely and effective performance of assigned maintenance using approved procedures and work practices.
  • Monitors work backlog and schedules related activities to ensure schedule adherence and maximized maintenance effort.
  • Work with Asset Strategy Coordinator to update and optimize preventive & routine maintenance programs.
  • Develop and determine resource requirements, ensuring adequate resources support scheduled work.
  • Work with Planner to plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Perform facility and qualified employee assessments.
  • Audit and ensure electrical rooms comply with housekeeping standards and are equipped with appropriate signs, labels, and drawings.
  • Ensure Qualified Person training is up to date.
  • Ensure that the Qualified Person PPE program is implemented and updated.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and applicable tools insulated.
  • Ensure technician adherence to plant standards and workflow processes.
  • Understand and work to fill gaps in technician abilities.
  • Proactively motivate, coach, and develop technicians.
  • Utilize technical expertise to coordinate activities during unplanned events and follow on root cause analysis.
  • Manage electrical/mechanical contractors when needed for plant maintenance or projects.
  • Coach and verify mechanical precision practices:
    • Shaft alignment (laser alignment standards where applicable)
    • Balance and vibration‑sensitive installation practices
    • Lubrication excellence (contamination control, correct lubricant use, storage/handling)
    • Fastener/torque practices, pipe strain control, soft foot elimination
    • Proper installation of bearings, seals, couplings, and rotating equipment foundations
    • Partner with Engineering to eliminate repeat failures using defect elimination and root cause thinking.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Industrial electrical, industrial electrical engineering, or electrical experience in the military.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • One (1) or more years of leadership experience.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Five (5) or more years of electrical experience in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Two (2) or more years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or military environment.
  • Experience utilizing predictive technologies (infrared, vibration, motor current, lubrication, etc.).
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Working experience with remote troubleshooting, PLC, HMI, Drives, electrical, controls systems, and National Electric Code.
  • Working knowledge and experience with MS Word and Excel and other PC‑based production and maintenance reporting applications.
  • Experience routinely utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) or other similar problem‑solving tools.
  • Experience in leading improvement efforts in Reliability, Predictive and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Experience reading electrical/mechanical drawings.
  • Working knowledge and experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Able to work in a manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in noisy, dusty, non‑air conditioned or unheated areas.
