The Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET2) provides clinical equipment services under the supervision of management. Duties include but are not limited to:
Perform calibrations and repairs on equipment as assigned. Demonstrate knowledge of safe and approved troubleshooting techniques on medical devices. Read schematics and service manuals, consult with vendors and service representatives to assist in troubleshooting. Utilize test equipment and complete repairs in a time and cost‑effective manner with patient safety as the primary focus. Document work performed and any significant performance data accurately and in a timely manner.
Operates as part of a team of engineers responsible for providing in‑depth technical knowledge required to implement, manage, upgrade and support many applications and interoperability into EPIC and other repositories.
- Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform corrective and preventative maintenance on biomedical equipment which requires moderate intervention.
- Perform safety acceptance testing on new medical equipment and on hospital equipment returned after service.
- Document all repair, maintenance, installation, and other activity in a timely fashion using the department’s equipment management software and other mechanisms as needed.
- Update/install medical equipment to include security protocols and work with customers to provide design solutions maintaining technical and application standards.
- Work closely with all engineers across all teams including Biomedical Engineering, Desktop Support, Systems, and Network Engineering.
- Coordinate with Well Star IT in support of planning, installation, and servicing networked medical devices and systems.
- Serve as a customer relations representative for the department, correcting service deficiencies within the position’s scope of responsibility and relaying other issues to the Program Manager.
- Maintain knowledge of current regulations and compliance standards for medical equipment and technology developments.
- Contribute to system, facility, and department quality & performance improvement efforts.
- Perform delegated functions of the Biomedical Engineering Department as delineated in the Medical Equipment Management Program Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Ensure proper care and accountability of department tools, equipment and resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma—General
- Associate’s in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
- Associate’s in Biomedical Engineering (preferred)
- Associate’s in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- GADL – Georgia Driver’s License or VSDL – Valid State Driver’s License
- CCNA Certification upon hire (preferred)
- PMP Certification upon hire (preferred)
- Equivalent Certification upon hire (preferred)
Minimum 3 years of experience supporting medical devices and systems in a hospital environment; knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro‑mechanical devices.
Required Minimum Skills- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Capable of interpreting building architectural and systems drawings and information
- Able to compose and deliver presentations regarding medical devices and systems to clinical staff
- Working knowledge of security protocols
