Job DescriptionWe are seeking an International Irrigation Engineer (Canal Systems) for a detailed engineering design of an irrigation scheme in Georgia.
Position SummaryThe Irrigation Engineer – Canal Systems will lead the engineering design of gravity irrigation canal systems, including main, secondary, and tertiary canals, hydraulic control structures, and associated drainage infrastructure. The expert will prepare detailed engineering designs, hydraulic analyses, rehabilitation strategies, and technical specifications for canal modernization while ensuring efficient water delivery, operational reliability, and compliance with Georgian regulations and international engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities- Review existing feasibility studies, surveys, hydraulic data, and engineering reports.
- Conduct field inspections and participate in engineering surveys.
- Prepare hydraulic and engineering designs for:
- Main canals
- Secondary canals
- Tertiary canals
- Canal lining systems
- Drainage canals
- Design canal rehabilitation and modernization measures.
- Design hydraulic control structures including:
- Cross regulators
- Division structures
- Turnouts
- Water supply nodes
- Measuring structures
- Develop canal cross‑sections, longitudinal profiles, hydraulic calculations, and engineering drawings.
- Prepare hydraulic modeling and water distribution analyses.
- Assess water conveyance efficiency and recommend improvements.
- Design proportional flow distribution systems.
- Coordinate integration of monitoring and SCADA requirements.
- Develop technical specifications and Bills of Quantities (BoQs).
- Support preparation of Operation & Maintenance Plans.
- Participate in stakeholder consultations and design review meetings.
- Coordinate with hydraulic, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and GIS specialists.
- Provide engineering support during preparation of tender documentation in accordance with FIDIC and EIB requirements.
- Must have Master’s degree or equivalent in civil engineering (specialization in water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, irrigation, drainage).
- Must have minimum 10 years of general professional experience in design of hydraulic structures, gravity irrigation/drainage survey, construction, maintenance, land use planning, and agriculture.
- Shall have at least 8 years of experience in the design of similar‑sized and type projects, including 3 years of international experience (outside the country of origin).
- Fluency in the English language is required.
