College/Department InformationThe mission of the Augusta University Police Department is to promote a safe atmosphere in which the university's teaching, discovery, clinical care and service mission can be successful. This is accomplished through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership.
Job SummaryThis position is an entry level position as a police officer cadet. This position, when hired, will employ the candidate while attending the Georgia Police Officer Training and Standards Basic Mandate course to become a certified police officer. Upon the successful completion of the Basic Mandate Course, the candidate will then be placed in the AUPD Field Training Officer program. Upon successful completion of both the Basic Mandate and AUPD's Field Training Officer program, the candidate will be eligible to move to Police Officer II.
Responsibilities- Completion of the Georgia Police Officers Standards and Training Basic Mandate course for Police Officers (approximately 6 months)
- Completion of the Augusta University Field Training Officer program (approximately 13 weeks)
- Under the supervision of a Field Trainer, must be able to:
- Patrol a designated area of the University projecting a community oriented policing mindset, preserve law and order, be alert for and control commission of crimes, answer calls to include, but not limited to trespassing, thefts, fire and burglar alarms, traffic accidents, and enforce traffic regulations
- Prepare required documents and reports
- Effect arrests and restrain persons consistent with the tenants of probable cause and reasonable suspicion
- Conduct investigations, collect and identify evidence, question principals and witnesses, testify in court when subpoenaed
- Other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must possess good moral and ethical character
